ABOUT
THE DISC & RECORDINGS:
Although Judy did not sing in A Child Is Waiting, the musical score is available in this new limited edition CD, which includes a nice booklet that gives a brief overview of the making of the film and a biographical sketch of of composer Ernest Gold.
Often overlooked in critical overviews of Judy's film career, A
Child Is Waiting features one of Judy's most heartfelt
performances. The film is also one of the first to sympathetically tackle the subject of mentally challenged children, one that was close to Judy's heart.
From the Intrada website:
World premiere release of haunting, sensitive soundtrack by Ernest Gold for John Cassavetes film about teacher Burt Lancaster working with challenged kids, also starring Judy Garland, Gena Rowlands. Ernest Gold writes for orchestra with focus on gentle melodic ideas. Composer also explores variety of colors from woodwinds within orchestra. Tender music with edges of drama! Intrada presents score from excellent condition mono masters as recorded for film, courtesy MGM. Liner notes by graphic designer Joe Sikoryak add details about early Cassavetes film directing plus scoring by Ernest Gold. Ernest Gold conducts. Intrada Special Collection release limited to 1000 copies!
