ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

This is a nicely done British version of the 1974 M-G-M Records "Those Glorious MGM Musicals" series. This time called of the "Silver Screen Soundtrack Series". Most of the M-G-M Records soundtracks were released in England under this series with vastly different graphics, as you can see here. These were all done in the gate-fold style, opening up to reveal liner notes and two photos from each film.

Another difference is that while the American editions were in mono, these were in "simulated stereo" which in those days meant that basically the bass was high on one channel, and the treble was high on the other, created a pseudo stereo effect. Some echo and reverb was added too, to round out the levels. Sometimes it sounded good, sometimes it didn't.

This edition is the only time that Judy's two major films from 1948 were packaged together.

Academy Award Winner:
Easter Parade 1948 Best Scoring of a Musical Picture (Johnny Green & Roger Edens). Lenny Hayton's score for The Pirate was also nominated in this same category that same year.
