ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

This deluxe boxed set of six records was part of the Japanese version of the popular 70s MGM Records series, "Those Glorious MGM Musicals" even though the artwork isn't even close in style to the others in the series ("Wizard of Oz/Brigadoon,""Seven Brides for Seven Brothers/Easter Parade" and "Those Glorious MGM Musicals" [2-LP compilation] sets).

This set featured a deluxe book (see images below) plus lyric sheets (below).  The lyrics sheets are amusing due to the fact that they were apparently transcribed phonetically and so were dependent on the level of knowledge of the person doing the transcribing.  They're quite amusing.

Several of the sountracks presented here are abridged versions of the more complete individual albums. Poor Kismet is represented by just one song. Of interest to collectors is the fact that the soundtracks roriginally eleased in the eight song format are intact.  The last record is devoted to about half of the 1974 2-LP soundtrack to That's Entertainment!.  However, ending the set wth "Get Happy" from Summer Stock (1950) is as good a closing as any.

Finally, one film that's represented, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, wasn't an MGM film, it was made at 20th-Century Fox. MGM Records held the rights to the soundtrack on vinyl both in the U.S. and the U.K.

All images on this page from the collection of Hisato Masuyama.  Thanks, Hisato!!
