Those Glorious MGM Musicals

ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

Here is the rare 1977 Japanese 2-LP compilation release, part of the "Those Glorious MGM Musicals" series.  For an example of the Garland soundtracks in the series, check the "Wizard of Oz/Brigadoon" and "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers/Easter Parade" sets.  This set was a sort of pared-down version of That's Entertainment!, using the "Wizard of Oz" medley from the MCA soundtrack and a sampling from the MGM Records tracks from the label's various soundtracks, all in mono.

The addition of the song "Funny Face" from the 1957 Paramount film of the same name is due to fact that the soundtrack album was released on the Verve label, which was owned by MGM Records, hence its inclusion here.  It's not as puzzling as it sounds.  Funny Face has always been considered as the MGM musical made outside of MGM due to the fact that almost everyone involved in the making of the film was an MGM alumni.  Even the look and flow of the film is the same as the best of the MGM musicals.
