Judy Room Filmography For Me And My Gal Page

For Me And My Gal

ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:
Back of the box

This out of print laser disc boxed set is still, in my opinion, the best Garland home video collection ever produced. The recent DVD "signature" collection may have more films, but it does not contain the hours of Judy's MGM prerecordings as this does.

The video portion of his set features the restored versions of The Harvey Girls (1946), The Pirate (1948), and Summer Stock (1950).

Also featured are the following performances and/or short subjects:
"That's The Good Old Sunny South" (The Big Revue - Vitaphone 1929)
"La Cucharacha" (La Fiesta de Santa Barbara - MGM 1935)
"My Intuition" (Outtake from The Harvey Girls - MGM 1946)
"March Of The Doagies" (Outtake from The Harvey Girls - MGM 1946)
"March Of The Doagies" Reprise (Outtake from The Harvey Girls - MGM 1946)
"Silent Night" (1937 MGM Exhibitor's Christmas Trailer)
"If I Forget You" (Circa 1940 short)
Excerpt from We Must Have Music (1941 MGM "Romance of Celluloid" short)
"Over The Rainbow" ("Command Performance, U.S.A.," short circa 1942)
"Last Night When We Were Young" (Outtake from In The Good Old Summertime - MGM 1949)
Every Sunday (Short - MGM 1936)
Bubbles (Short - Vitaphone 1930)
"God's Country"/"My Day"/"Good Morning" (Deleted sequence from Babes In Arms - MGM 1939)
"The Joint Is Really Jumpin'" (Thousands Cheer - MGM 1943)

Insert Plus all of the existing trailers to Judy's films except Pigskin Parade (20th Century-Fox 1936), A Star Is Born (Warner Bros. 1954), Pepe (Columbia 1960), and Gay Purr-ee (Warner Bros. 1962) are featured in chronological order.

And finally, the video portion of the set closes with the following two segments:

1) "The Judy Garland Stereo Scrapbook" - A special program of the following Garland film performances presented with true stereo audio for the first time:
"When Johnny Comes Marching Home"/"For Me And My Gal" (For Me And My Gal - MGM 1942)
"Where There's Music"/"Three O'Clock In The Morning"/"Broadway Rhythm" (Presenting Lily Mars - MGM 1943)
"On The Atchison, Topeka, and the Santa Fe" (The Harvey Girls - MGM 1946)
"Mack The Black" (The Pirate - MGM 1948)

2) "There'll Always Be An Encore":
"FDR Jones" (Babes On Broadway - MGM 1941)
"Look For The Silver Lining" (Till The Clouds Roll By - MGM 1946)

This laser set is still the only source for the bulk of prerecordings included. Rhino Records has released many of these prerecordings in their series of restored CD soundtracks of MGM's musicals but even those mostly include only the final versions as presented in the films, and not the multiple takes.

Images on this page from the collection of Scott Brogan.

Album cover restoration provided by "Alex in Belgium" - thank you Alex!
