Another in the late 70's "Silver
Screen Soundtracks Series" which were the British counterparts
to the 1974 M-G-M Records "Those
Glorious MGM Musicals" series.
Most of the M-G-M Records soundtracks were released in England
under this series with vastly different graphics, as you can
see here. These were all done in the gate-fold style, opening
up to reveal liner notes and two photos from each film.
Another difference is that while the American editions were
in mono, these were in "simulated stereo" which in
those days meant that basically the bass was high on one channel,
and the treble was high on the other, creating a pseudo stereo
effect. Some echo and reverb was added too, to round out the
levels. Sometimes it sounded good, sometimes it didn't.
This is the only LP available
to us that reflects the U.K. title for Summer
Stock:
If You Feel Like Singing. The film was released
in the U.K. under this title as the phrase "Summer Stock" is
distinctly American and would have no meaning to British audiences.
This album also leaves off the two non-Garland numbers "Mem'ry
Island" and "Heavenly Music".
