ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:



This compilation is notable for several reasons:

1) It presents "It Never Was You" which is an previously unreleased studio prerecording for the soundtrack of I Could Go On Singing. The version heard in the film was recorded live, on-set during filming.
2) "Why Was I Born" is a previously unreleased alternate take from Judy's famous "London Sessions".
3) All of the tracks have been newly remastered, including the selections from I Could Go On Singing, and they all sound great.

What the liner notes do not mention, but the sharp ear of a Garland collector might notice, is that "Happiness Is Just A Thing Called Joe" is an alternate take, and the first two lines of "By Myself" are different than the previously released versions. This makes one think that perhaps there are more unreleased "goodies" in the Capitol vaults? Maybe when Capitol finally gets around to releasing a "complete" boxed set of all of Judy's work for the label, they'll do like MCA did with "The Complete Decca Years" and include a disc of alternate and previously unreleased material. Here's wishing...

This CD is a definite "must have" for any Garland collection.
