ABOUT THE DISC & RECORDINGS:

Another set from the series of CDs entitled "The Sound Of The Movies" from Hamburg, Germany. It's a good idea, pairing two of MGM's Ziegfeld films and calling them "Ziegfeld Stories". It would be nice if Rhino/Turner Classic Movies Music made a set with all three of MGM's Ziegfeld films to included The Great Ziegfeld (1936), Ziegfeld Girl (1941) and Ziegfeld Follies (1946).

The sound quality on the particular "set" varies. The Great Ziegfeld sounds as though it was recorded from a videotape. Although on the plus side it includes the complete pre-recording of Fanny Brice's performance of "My Man" which is shortened in the actual film. This pre-recording finally made its debut on the revised bonus disc to the updated Rhino boxed set of the soundtrack to the entire That's Entertainment film series, released in 2006.

The tracks for Ziegfeld Follies are identical to the Rhino Records edition. Obviously taken from their CD but oddly deleting the Kathryn Grayson version of "There's Beauty Everywhere" - yet listing her as the performer for the James Melton outtake that IS included! Better to get the Rhino edition!
