REMINDER!
JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG DVD
goes on sale tomorrow, September 7th!

This
gripping portrayal of the Nazi War Crimes trials
in Nuremberg, Germany is one of the best films
ever made, and is also one of Judy's best dramatic
performances.
Judy plays the small but pivotal role of Irene
Hoffman, a woman persecuted by the Nazis for her
innocent father/daughter relationship with an
older Jewish man. She is persuaded to give testimony
in the trail of several Nazi judges, with Burt
Lancaster playing the respected judge and scholar
that these particular trials focus on. Her testimony
is riveting. Judy later said that when she played
the role, relating the relationship with the older
Jewish man, she was remembering her late father.
Judy received her second Academy Award nomination
for her role, this time as Best Supporting Actress.
She lost to Rita Moreno's in West Side Story.
As much as I like and respect Ms. Moreno, I'm
still trying to figure that one out. I think that
was more of a popularity contest than anything
else.
Judgment At Nuremberg was part of an early 1960's
renaissance for Judy. At this time, and over
the next few years, she would make
several films, several TV specials, and most
importantly: the famous Carnegie Hall concert
and her TV series"The
Judy Garland Show".
