Celebrates Judy Garland every Thursday in April.

TCM Banner

Turner Classic Movies will honor the multi-faceted career of singer and screen actress Judy Garland with a 28-movie festival airing every Thursday in April. The tribute will also feature two documentaries, including The Wonderful World of Oz: 50 Years of Magic (1990, April 1, 11:30 p.m.) and the biographical Impressions of Garland (1972, April 29, 4:30 a.m.).

The festival kicks off with The Beginning, an evening of early films, including Garland’s breakthrough performance in BROADWAY MELODY OF 1938 (1937, April 1, 8 p.m.), in which she stole the show with her rendition of “Dear Mr. Gable.” The evening continues with other early Garland favorites including LISTEN DARLING (1938, April 1, 10 p.m.) and LITTLE NELLIE KELLY (1940, April 1, 12:30 a.m.). On April 8, TCM revisits Garland’s on-screen partnership with Mickey Rooney with GIRL CRAZY (1943, April 8, 8 p.m.), BABES ON BROADWAY (1941, April 8, 10 p.m.) and LOVE FINDS ANDY HARDY (1938, April 8, 4 a.m.).

The Ugly Duckling Becomes a Swan is the theme for April 15, featuring some of Judy Garland’s most-beloved films of the early 1940s. FOR ME AND MY GAL (1942) starts off the evening at 8 p.m., followed by two Vincent Minelli classics, MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944, April 15, 10 p.m.) and THE CLOCK (1945, April 15, 12 a.m.).

On April 22, In Glorious Technicolor celebrates Garland’s late ‘40s favorites including THE HARVEY GIRLS (1946, April 22, 8 p.m.), IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME (1949, April 22, 12 a.m.) and EASTER PARADE (1948, April 22, 4 a.m.)

Finishing out the month on April 29 is the theme Life After MGM, showcasing the critically acclaimed dramatic roles that Judy Garland tackled before her untimely death in 1969. Included in this evening of Garland’s later work is her Oscar®-nominated turns in both George Cukor’s remake of A STAR IS BORN (1954, April 29, 8 p.m.) and JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG (1961, April 29, 1 a.m.).
