JANUARY 13, 2007
Another year has passed, and it was a wonderful year it was!
We
saw the release of the first official USPS Judy Garland Stamp,
many great DVDs, several CDs, and to top it off, the year
ended with the announcement and subsequent auction of the "Lost
Decca Recordings" that Judy recorded in 1935 at a mere
12 years old (see label image at right). Controversies aside,
these historical recordings are a lasting record, and proof
of, the incredible natural talent that Judy was given. A
talent that we'll never see again.
Speaking of records, over at The
Judy Garland Online Discography we added several hundred
pages. We are proud that The Discography is now the ultimate
online resource for people seeking information about Judy's
records.
Thank you everyone out there for all of your help with The
Discography and the rest of the site. I'm very happy to say
that The Judy Room is a website built by the fans
- not just one person - or one committee - but many, many
very giving fans of all ages and all walks of life. Thank
you!!

Judy's
1959 concept album "The Letter" is scheduled
for its CD debut on April 10th. Amazingly, this special
album was recorded in only two days, January 15th & 16th,
1959. Arranged and orchestrated by Gordon Jenkins, "The
Letter" took the "theme" idea as presented
in Judy's 1957 "Alone" album one step further
and presented a "melodrama-in-song" by Judy with
narration by John Ireland. Ireland read "The Letter" (which
was pasted to the cover of the original album release)
between Judy's songs. Obviously the songs reflected the
plot. This was an interesting concept that works well in
spite of some rather banal material for the narration.
And the sound of the album has that 1950's lush stereo
that I hope will make it onto the CD.
Released by DRG Records, the CD will also include FOUR (not
six as has been reported) bonus tracks:
The 45rpm EP (Extended Play) radio promo versions of "The
Worst Kind Of Man", "The Red Balloon"; "That's
All There Is, There Isn't Anymore"; & "Beautiful
Trouble".

Judy Garland Online Discography "The Letter" pages for

Finally!
Judy's only straight dramatic role during her career
at MGM makes it's DVD debut in February 2007.
Directed by Vincente Minnelli and co-starring Robert
Walker, The Clock is a beautiful wartime love
story set against the backdrop of New York City. Judy
is at her peak, and proves that her dramatic abilities
more than match her legendary voice.
DVD extras:
Vintage Pete Smith Specialty Short: Hollywood Scout
Classic Cartoon: The Screwy Truant
Audio-Only Bonus: Lux Theater Radio Show Adaptation with
Judy Garland and John Hodiak
Theatrical Trailer
No film could be better timed to make it's DVD debut
just before Valentine's Day!
