THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT!
(Complete film series - Warner Home Video October 12, 2004)

Also available in HD-DVD and Blu-Ray

The ultimate musical anthology series. The original That's Entertainment! premiered in 1974 to critical accolades and huge box office. The film celebrated the 50th anniversary of MGM while affectionately looking back at the studios greatest musical triumphs. This was a milestone in movie history. Never before had a studio compiled clips from its past successes and released them theatrically. The film shocked the industry by becoming one of the biggest hits of the year. It also gave several generations of film fans a chance to see these great performances on the big screen. Coming just 5 years after Judy's death the film garnered her many new fans while at the same time bringing her new respect and industry recognition as the greatest female musical performer in film history.

Of course, after the huge success it was inevitable that a sequel would follow. Released in 1976, That's Entertainment, Part 2 added some highlights from MGM's dramatic films as well as featuring more great musical numbers. Although not as big a hit as its predecessor it helped cement the studio's claim as the greatest producer of film musicals.

It would be another 18 years before the third installment, That's Entertainment III hit theaters in 1994. This time, the film featured rare outtakes, including Judy's two cut numbers from Annie Get Your Gun (1950) and Easter Parade (1948). The film also featured beautiful new restorations of all of the films represented. A special edition laser disc set was released featuring a separate disc with more outtakes not featured in the released film (including Judy's "Last Night When We Were Young" from In The Good Old Summertime [1949]). The entire series was released in a special edition laser disc boxed set featuring rare alternate audio recordings, and more film clips - this time married to their stereo recordings for the first time.

These special edition DVDs are the first time the films have been available in any home video format since the mid-1990s. Each film is sold separately. The boxed set features an additional disc that's not sold separately that features more outtakes and clips (as the laser set did), as well as alternate audio tracks of rare recording sessions from the golden age of the MGM musical.

How fitting that these days the original tag line from the original installment 30 years ago still applies:
Boy, do we need it now!!
